LANGUAGE, & CULTURE CLASS

CELEBRATE OUR HERITAGE

Tigrigna is a language spoken by the Tigrigna tribe of Eritrea and is one of the main languages spoken in Eritrea. Currently there are three classes offered: beginner, moderate, and expert. Each class builds off basic language skills, reading, and writing.

Beyond celebrating our cultural heritage at large and small community events throughout the year, the Eritrean Association is also committed to passing on our language and cultural heritage to the next generation. We accomplish this through a thriving Eritrean Language, Culture, and Dance Program for children and youth. This program helps our children and youth take pride in being Eritrean, experience a sense of belonging to the larger Eritrean community, make connections to each other in common purpose, and build a foundation for greater success in school and in life.

Next Generation Leadership

It all begins with an idea.

Our Next Generation Leadership Program focuses on nurturing and empowering the upcoming leaders within our organization. Through this program, participants receive valuable mentoring support and gain leadership opportunities. They actively engage in a variety of community activities, working collaboratively with experienced elder leaders to prepare themselves for future leadership roles.

Participants in the program take the lead in organizing and executing various initiatives within the community. By working side by side with seasoned leaders, they not only contribute to the community's well-being but also develop essential skills and knowledge necessary for their own personal and professional growth.

This program serves as a platform for fostering a strong sense of mentorship, ensuring that the wisdom and expertise of the elder leaders are passed on to the next generation. It prepares and equips the participants with the necessary tools and experiences to take on future leadership responsibilities, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity within our organization.

Senior Village Program

Our senior program focuses on providing comprehensive support and nourishment to seniors. We offer meals three times a week, both through on-site dining and home deliveries. Additionally, we provide food pantry items once a week, both in person and through home deliveries.

Our on-site lunch not only offers culturally appropriate nutritious food but also includes a one-hour session of age-appropriate exercises. Following the meal, we engage in a traditional coffee ceremony where we share bread that has been blessed by a priest, fostering a sense of community and cultural significance.

Furthermore, we prioritize empowering our seniors by offering ESL classes and computer lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays after the on-site lunch. These lessons aim to enhance their digital literacy and enable them to navigate the modern world more confidently.

Our program operates between the hours of 11 am to 3 pm, ensuring that seniors have a structured and fulfilling experience during their time with us.
